The AI Age: Reinvent or Risk Irrelevance
It's 2am and I can't stop scrolling through tweets about AI and how it's upending the world as I know it.
I'm simultaneously giddy with excitement about the future and terrified about its implications. Isn't this truly the most transformative time in modern human history?
The future of work is rapidly changing with new ways of creating, collaborating, and contributing. As seasoned business leaders, we bring the wisdom and experience to guide the next generation. But we are also at risk of irrelevance if we don't reinvent ourselves.
That's a lot easier said than done because our success often becomes the biggest obstacle to our growth. It's not easy to shed the formula that helped us rise to the top; it's hard to take risks that could destroy everything we built; and it's even harder to imagine a future where we no longer matter.
As a proud Gen Xer, I believe that our independent upbringing equips us well to adapt to this new reality. All we need to do is go back to the basics - get curious, be brave, and have fun.
My hope is that this newsletter provides you with the ideas and inspiration to create the legacy you deserve. Let's go!
This Week's Insights:
- Understand why DeepSeek AI is shaking up the global AI race
- Explore how you can adapt quickly to disruptive change
- Boost personal growth with ready-to-use AI prompts
TRENDS
The launch of China's DeepSeek AI platform caught the world by surprise because it challenged existing assumptions. This news has been widely hailed as AI's Sputnik moment.
What you need to know:
- DeepSeek's cutting-edge AI model uses less advanced chips and requires lower cost hardware
- DeepSeek's AI model efficiency requires less power and reduces data center energy consumption
- DeepSeek learns by doing and develops its own reasoning abilities, leading to a more robust and adaptable intelligence
Why it matters:
DeepSeek requires significantly lower resources yet outperforms OpenAI, leveling the playing field, and challenging USA's dominance in AI. DeepSeek's success, however, is a net positive as it lowers the barrier to entry and accelerates research and innovation.
TIPS
When everything changes at light speed, your ability to adapt quickly is the ultimate superpower.
To learn new skills and strategies, start by identifying what you must first unlearn. Ask yourself: What is a core belief that I need to challenge?
For change to occur, you must shed what's holding you back before you can embrace what helps you grow. Go from "all-knowing" to "always learning". As Steve Jobs said: stay hungry and foolish.
TOOLS
The best way to learn is by doing. Get started by signing up for free on any of the leading AI tools (ChatGPT, DeepSeek, Claude). Once you are set up, use the following prompts for AI-powered self discovery:
Core Values: âCreate a list of powerful questions to help me uncover my core values and align my goals with these values, using Self-Determination Theory by Deci and Ryan.â
Future Vision: "Develop a framework for conducting a âfuture selfâ visioning session, including prompts and reflection questions to guide me, based on Possible Selves Theory by Hazel Markus."
Unique Strengths: âGenerate a list of creative exercises or activities to help me identify and leverage my unique strengths in both personal and professional settings, using the Strengths-Based Approach by Clifton and Anderson.â
What is one thing you will reinvent this week?
Until next time...stay curious!
Cheers,
Nikki
