The Hidden Cost of Staying Invisible in Business
Filled with anxiety, I finally published my article on LinkedIn after laboring over it for a month.
I was "returning" online after a year-long sabbatical. I'd exited my last business and I had yet to launch my next business.
In the absence of a professional identity, this in-between period was terrifying. Past successes did little to ease the sense of inadequacy and irrelevance. That's why, posting my article online felt a massive act of bravery!
Here's what really happened:
My article made its way to the LinkedIn abyss of endless content. A handful of friends liked and commented. And then it just died an invisible death.
What's the point of my story? No one is thinking about you!
People are busy dealing with their own lives and responsibilities. Yet, we make so many decisions based on other people's opinions. We hesitate to express ourselves because we fear judgment and criticism. And, when we finally put ourselves out there, we feel rejected when there isn't enough validation.
I chose NOT to keep my head down, do great work, and wait for recognition. I started sharing my perspective publicly, expressing who I am, what I believe in, and why it matters. I stopped worrying about whether my ideas were rejected or celebrated.
Over time, my writing improved and my authentic voice emerged. My message resonated deeply with people who saw themselves in me - the fears, the struggles, the successes, the dreams, and the determination. My influence grew and my network exploded. Instead of chasing them, I began attracting opportunities.
When you show up as yourself and own your narrative, you no longer lean on an external identity. Your power comes from within, not from your company name, your title, or your professional status. That's what makes you unstoppable.
For years, credibility was enough. If you had the right experience, the right network, and a strong reputation, opportunities flowed your way.
But that world no longer exists.
The market doesnât reward experience. It rewards those who claim their place at the top. It isnât about talent, intelligence, or capability. It's visibility - that's the gap between those who struggle and those who own their power.
Today, power isnât about what youâve done in the past. Itâs about how strategically you position yourself with authority and influence.
If you arenât sharing your perspective and showcasing your credibility because you're worried about other people's opinions, youâre invisible to the opportunities that matter.
The difference between chasing opportunity and being in high demand? Being known for your ideas before you even enter the room.
The hard truth: Your ideas are only as powerful as your distribution.
Your voice, expertise, and authority deserve to be seen. Your next move determines your next level.
